Super Easy Cream Puffs Recipe

/
26 Comments
Hi guys! On this episode of Bea pretends to be a good cook, I conquer the cream puff! And let me tell you guys something... IT IT SOOOO EASY! I used a betty crocker recipe for the puff and the filling. While for the cinnamon and chocolate part, I just winged it. If you want to find out how I made the cream puffs that received my sister's seal of approval, keep on reading.

Makes 24 puffs

Ingredients

Puff:
1 cup water
1/2 cup margarine or butter
1 cup flour
4 eggs

Pastry Cream:
1/3 cup sugar
2 tbsp cornstarch
1/8 tsp salt
2 cups milk
2 egg yolks
2 tbsp butter
2 tsp vanilla

Note: Now this may look like a long recipe but trust me when I say :1. Its real easy 2. I don't like reading paragraph form recipes so I turned everything into just 1 sentence per instruction 3. Its really just detailed

Directions

First, lets make the pastry cream

Mix sugar, cornstarch and salt in a saucepan

Gradually stir in milk with the heat on medium

Frequently stir until the mixture boils and thickens
(The mixture has to be thick enough to cover the back of a spoon so be patient people!)

Take 1/2 of the mixture out of the saucepan and into a bowl to cool

After a couple of minutes, stir in the hot mixture into the egg yolks SLOWLY
(This will prevent the yolks from turning into scrambled eggs)

Place egg mixture into the previous saucepan

Boil and stir for 1 minute

Remove from heat

Add in margarine or butter and vanilla

Put it in a ziplock bag or a piping bag

Let it cool

ITS TIME FOR THE PUFFS!

Pre-heat the oven to 200 degrees celsius

Add water and butter into a saucepan and let it go into a rolling boil

Stir in flour vigorously for 1 min on low heat

Remove from heat

Let it cool for a while then beat in the eggs one at a time

Mix it vigorously till smooth
(Warning: This will require arm muscle action)

On a baking pan lined with parchment paper, pope the dough.
I would say that I piped a little more than a 1/8 cup

Pop them in the oven for 17 minutes or till they look like cream puffs
(DUUHHHHH)

Admire

Putting it together:

Take a knife
Poke the bottom of the puff
Twist the knife and slide it out
Put in your chosen cream bag into the hole
SQQQUUEZZEEEE

You want to really fill in the puff so don't be shy. I squeezed mine for a little more that 3 seconds and they were perfect but you can tell for yourself if the puff is full anyways since you'll see the cream start to ooze out.

Adding more flavour:

Chocolate:

For the chocolate it was super easy. I just added chocolate into a bowl with a tiny bit of milk into the microwave for 15 seconds and let the heat of the bowl melt it completely as I was stirring it. (If it doesn't look like the melted chocolate of your dreams, add a little bit of more milk.)

Dip your puffs into the chocolate and you're done!

Cinnamon Sugar:

I actually don't know how to do this properly and just went with my guts so if this is SOOOOOOO wrong... Im so sorry.... but it takes so good.

Here how I did it:

Add brown sugar and tiny bit of water into a sauce pan
(Like 5 tbsp of sugar and 1 tbsp of water)

Add cinnamon (add as much as you want)

Let the brown sugar melt completely
(I didn't wait long enough so my melted sugar didn't look smooth!)

Take a silicon brush and brush the sugar mixture on top of each puff

I highly recommend that you try this recipe out and if you do give it a shot, tell me about it!

What do you think
I should conquer
next?
